What does the user need to know about the permissible cross-section of residential wires?

The user should be aware that for standard electricity consumers, for example, lighting lines, a cable with copper conductors with a cross section of 1.5 mm2 with a 10 A protection device is sufficient, for socket groups — a cable with copper conductors with a cross section of 2.5 mm2 and a protection device for 16 A , for electrical single-phase plates of any power, cables with copper conductors with a cross section of 6 mm2 and a 32 A protection device are used.

For all other consumers, for example, for a very powerful instantaneous water heater, it is necessary to calculate the cross-section of the conductor depending on the current strength. The PUE (Electrical Installation Rules) contains a table linking the values of these two parameters. That is, they first calculate what current will flow, based on the power of the consumer, choose with a certain margin the cross-section of the wire or cable core, after which they acquire an automatic switch to protect this section of the electrical circuit.
